Gaston County Arts council doles out $14,050 to community programs. The Gaston Arts Council has announced Grassroots Grant awards totaling $14,050 for community programs ranging from visual arts to dance. Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont got a $2,000 grant for its Arts at the Garden exhibit featuring artists from around the region. Gaston School of the Arts got $5,000 for a chorus, voice and music program in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Gastonia. The school also got another $5,000 to create an after-school program in visual arts with the boys and girls club. Gaston County Public Library got $300 for a presentation of local musician David Childers' concert of original music. The Piedmont Chapter of the Links got $1,750 to support a performance by an African American dance ensemble for Gaston County schools. -- Joe DePriest
