Our motto is "Preserving the past for the sake of the future". The Belmont Historical Society, Inc. (BHS) is dedicated to preserving the history of the city of Belmont NC and its immediate surrounding area.

 

The BHS is recording the places, the people, and the times from the past that have made Belmont the community that it is. The BHS, Inc. traces Belmont from the early days, even before Garibaldi, through the years as a textile manufacturing giant, to the current days of a growing community of interesting people and places.

The 8th annual Carolina Pottery Festival will feature more than 100 local and regional potters showing and selling traditional and contemporary works. There will be something for everyone, from functional kitchen wares to decorative sculpture and wall hangings. Pottery demonstrations will take place throughout the day. There will also be information on pottery lessons and education available. Awards will be presented, and many pots will also be for sale.

This group was formed with the mission of creating an arts organization dedicated to producing and promoting contemporary dance choreography in conjunction with multi-disciplinary artistic collaborations. This community college in Dallas, NC, offers a wide range of undergraduate and associate degree courses, along with a full art program. Many of the Arts Council's affiliates and associates use the college's 600-seat Myers Center Auditorium for performances throughout the year. The new Jeannie Rauch Art Gallery, and the Beam Art Gallery host exhibits year-round.

One of the largest school systems in the state, Gaston schools offer public education grades K-12. They work in partnership with the Arts Council to bring resident artists and writers into the classrooms. An innovative arts-integration program will start next year at Ida Rankin Elementary School in Mount Holly. The arts will be used to assist in the teaching of basic curriculum classes such as history, math and language arts.

This group of music lovers and educators provides scholarships to high school music students to help them attend music camps at colleges and other locations. Every other year they sponsor a tour of homes in Gastonia to help raise money for the scholarship fund.  
   
 
   
 

With more than 65 members ranging in age from 16 to 75, this full brass and percussion band has become one of the finest and best-kept secrets in the local arts community. The band offers dozens of concerts throughout the community each year, including seasonal performances. What looks like a complicated name is really a group dedicated to preserving a simple idea - barbershop harmony. Locally known as the Chord weavers, this choral group studies and performs this American traditional way of singing. They perform in many venues and hold several concerts throughout the year.  
   
 
   
 
This woman's civic groups works in the Gaston County community to promote African-American culture and to provide role models for young people. Each year they bring professional actors, singers and dancers into the schools for a program called "The African American Mosaic."  
   
 
   
 

Organized in the early 1970's as the Charlotte Handweavers Guild, our group has evolved into a regional membership of people interested in all aspects of the fiber arts: spinning, weaving, knitting, doll making, surface design, basketry, beadwork etc.

 

Piedmont Fiber Group meets in Gastonia, NC at Unity Place, located at 201 West Franklin from 2 to 4 pm on the third Sunday of each month, September -November and Jan-May. We offer programs related to fiber arts each month, as well as workshops, several times each year, with regionally and nationally known artists. Visitors and guests are welcome.

Pilot International was founded in 1921 as a volunteer service organization. The historical inspiration for the names was the riverboat pilot who would steer a true course through calm or troubled waters. Thus, the Motto, “True Course Ever” and the nautical wheel emblem; seen most often at the entrance to communities throughout the World.

 

Pilot members are members and professional leaders who share a common trait, the desire to help people in need and to make the world a better place to live. Membership in pilot International consists of 25,000 adults and youth volunteers from Bahamas, Bangladesh, Bermuda, Canada, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, and the United States.
